On the other hand, Enscape is a flexible plugin that may be used with a variety of 3D programs. This facilitates the job of architects and designers. The 3D render can produce excellent results. It takes a few seconds to a minute once all the textures have been put up and scene elements have been included.

It also provides the ability to make panoramic images and videos. Furthermore, Enscape provides you with several options before rendering, including 4 different rendering styles: default, white, polystyrol, and light. You can also adjust the field of view and the resolution of the image before rendering.

Populating Scenes

Because Lumion is primarily a rendering program, 3D objects must be imported from another 3D modeling program. Additionally, you may make use of Lumion’s extensive and well-stocked library, which has a wealth of architectural assets in addition to a variety of things including plants, vehicles, animals, interior furniture, and even effects like fire and water. Depending on the requirements of the project, these items can alter in terms of proportion, color, and material. It also provides ready scenes and landscape assets to include in the project like a realistic sky, sea, landscape, and even desert. To better integrate the project on the web, users can alter these settings by adding mountains, a lake, and slobs.

However, Enscape has many features, including virtual tours, annotation, animation, rendering, and landscape design. It also has a vast bank of assets, including people, flowers, and plants.

Additionally, Enscape’s Camera may rotate an object and set up scenarios. A wide range of realistic textures are also available for rendering outcomes. Since the modeling software and Enscape are linked, any modifications made in the modeling program are automatically reflected in Enscape, which is a wonderful advantage of utilizing Enscape.

User Interface

You will find an extremely user-friendly UI in Lumion. It does not have many tools because they are all connected to give a very efficient working environment.

The working tools are so simple to use that even a novice may use them with ease.

Like Lumion, Enscape has been getting better with every upgrade. Users are accustomed to the software’s UI even before they use it for the first time.

Recommended System Requirements

The system specifications for Lumion or Enscape rely on the quality you want from your rendered graphics.

Because Lumion is a powerful and heavy software due to the quality of its renderings and capabilities, it needs a powerful computer with a powerful graphics card and plenty of RAM. Additionally, it is preferable if the computer is a desktop model with an effective ventilation system to prevent overheating of the graphics cards and processor.

Lumion is available only on Windows, and there is no MAC version. The following are the system requirements you need to work well with Lumion:

  • Graphic card: 6GB or more.  GPU scoring a G3DMark of 8,000 or higher with up-to-date drivers (Such as the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060, Quadro K6000, AMD Radeon RX 580, or better)

  • AMD or Intel processor with a CPU Mark of 2000 or above
  • Minimum 16 GB of RAM or more
  • Minimum 40 GB of free disc space

Because Enscape produces high-quality renders, similar to other rendering applications, it requires a fast computer with an external graphics card and a powerful processor in addition to being able to run 3D packages like Sketchup, Revit, and others.

In the case of Enscape, the system requirements are as follows:

For Windows:

  • Operating system: Windows 10 or higher
  • Graphic card: NVIDIA or AMD dedicated GPU with 4GB VRAM that supports Vulkan 1.1. NVIDIA GeForce GTX 900 series / Quadro M series and newer
  • 4GB VRAM

For macOS:

  • Operating system: Monterey 12.6 and higher
  • M1: MacBook Air (M1, 2020), MacBook Pro (M1, 2021), iMac (M1, 2021)
  • M2: MacBook Air (M2, 2022), MacBook Air (M2, 2022)
  • M3: MacBook Pro (M3, 2023)

Lumion vs Enscape: Learning Curves

Lumion and Enscape are relatively easy to learn, use, and pick up. Lumion is more akin to a basic piece of software that everyone may use. The commands and tools are arranged as follows: first, select the environment; next, add the necessary items (trees, plants, people, etc.), then, modify the environment and materials (sky, sun, clouds), and finally, render.

Also, Enscape is relatively straightforward to use, requiring little setting, unlike many other plugins and add-ons that are available. It also comes with a limited amount of commands and tools. Enscape has provided an excellent tool to help manage your BIM information within a project.

Lumion vs Enscape: Pricing & Licensing

Enscape is available for €78.9 a month and €514.8 a year. Before purchasing a license, you can test the software’s functionality for free for 14 days by downloading a trial version.

However, the Lumion Standard costs €62.42/month and €749/year. And Lumion Pro costs €124.92/month and €1,499/year. It is pricey compared to Enscape and unaffordable for small firms, students, and typical architects and designers. For 14 days, Lumion also provides a free trial of the software.

Wrap Up

In conclusion, the selection of rendering software plays a great important role in architectural visualization. Both Lumion vs Enscape have strengths and limitations, therefore the choice you make should depend on the particular requirements of your project.

Best CPU for Lumion

While Lumion heavily relies on the performance of your GPU, the CPU is mostly responsible for non-rendering calculations such as the UI and scene preview. In addition, for Lumion, high single-core performance is more helpful than core counts. How do we know a CPU with good single-core performance? Is it the GHz? Well, yes, and no. Single-core performance of a CPU is affected by various factors. You can refer to the benchmark by CPUMark (Passmark) or CGDirector.

In short, we do not necessarily need a high-end CPU, a CPU with good single-core performance will do. But of course, the CPU should be compatible with the performance of the GPU to avoid bottlenecks. If money is not a problem, let’s get the most powerful one we can.

friendly efficient lumion cloud rendering cpu amd threadripper pro

CPU recommendations for Lumion

Best GPU for Lumion

With Lumion, the GPU accelerates the render speed while rendering and ensures a smooth frame rate when you are working on the project. Because of this, your choice of GPU will determine your Lumion experience and rendering performance.

How much VRAM does Lumion need?

Straight performance is not the only thing to consider when choosing a GPU, it is also important that your GPU has enough VRAM or graphics card memory for your projects. Because VRAM is where your GPU will load, process, and render all the details, textures, and models of your project. So, the more VRAM available, the more complex your project can be.

Lumion 2023 Requirements Minimum Recommended High-end
VRAM 6 GB+

(Rendering in 4K resolution

or using RayTracing needs

at least 8 GB VRAM)

10 GB+ 16 GB+

What GPU is best for Lumion?

Lumion benefits greatly from using a GPU. Right now, RTX 4090, the latest product from the NVIDIA Geforce series, is the best graphics card you can get for Lumion. However, RTX 3090 (24 GB VRAM) gives an excellent performance at a more affordable price.

friendly efficient lumion cloud rendering gpu nividia rtx3090

Do multiple GPUs improve performance in Lumion?

According to Lumion, multiple GPUs (in NVIDIA SLI, NVIDIA NVLink, or AMD Crossfire configuration) will not increase the performance or render speed in Lumion. Lumion will only use the GPU that is linked to the monitor that the Lumion window starts on.

Since Lumion does not work with multiple cards, we should get a high-end GPU that is as powerful as possible.

  • Output quality: 1 – 5 star.
  • Frames per second: 25, 30, 60, 200.
  • Output resolution: 640 x 360, 1280 x 720, 1920 x 1080, 2560 x 1440, 3840 x 2160.

4 ways to reduce render time in Lumion change output settings

For instance, rendering a movie at 1280 x 720 pixels in 3-star quality and 25 frames per second is a lot faster than rendering a movie at 3840 x 2160 pixels in 5-star quality and 60 frames per second.

3. Upgrade your hardware

Two tips above will help to make the most of Lumion with your current hardware. But they also might reduce the quality of your work. Why do we let the hardware limit our creativity and our work quality? It is better to upgrade your computer to remove that limit. Especially if you have demanding, detailed, and very complicated projects. You may have to change the System Memory (RAM), the GPU, or perhaps the whole PC.

If you do not know where to start, we have some recommendations for you:

4. Use Chip Render Farm for rendering your Lumion projects

Discover how Lumion license works and how it works on Chip Render.

Lumion is 3D rendering software made especially for architects. If you have a 3D model of your design, Lumion can help you bring it to life. In order to take advantage of the application, you need to buy a Lumion license.

In this post, Chip Render will show you how Lumion license works and how to use Lumion license on Chip Render.

How does Lumion license system work?

When you purchase a Lumion license, you will receive a license key in your email. This is a floating license, it works the same as network licenses. You can use the license indefinitely and you can install a single Lumion license key on multiple computers of yours. However, if two or more people want to use one single Lumion license key on many computers at the same time, you need to add more seats to your license.

Lumion needs internet access to open and shut down Lumion, as well as to use the following functionality: MyLumion uploads, OpenStreetMap downloads, and uploading videos to YouTube in Movie Mode.

About Chip Render

Chip Render is a powerful and affordable GPU rendering solution for 3D artists, designers, and architects. It provides Cloud Workstations with cutting-edge hardware to handle any kind of project. Especially, it support real-time rendering software such as Lumion, Enscape, Twinmotion, D5, Unreal Engine, and more. Unlike usual render farms, Chip Render provides cloud rendering under the IaaS model. You rent our powerful remote workstations and use them just like your own computer.

How to use Lumion license on Chip Render?

Therefore, you will need to install Lumion (one time) and use your own license on Chip Render. How to do that? Let’s find out.

  • If you have extra licenses or seats, everything is easy. After installing Lumion on the remote workstation, add your key to open and start using Lumion.
  • If you only have one license, you need to transfer that license to the remote workstation to use. On your local computer, click on the Quit button on Lumion software, Lumion will release the License Key. Because the Quit button connects to the Lumion server. You might need to wait a few minutes for the system to release your key. Then, the software will automatically close. This process requires the internet, so make sure you are always connected.

The next step is to install Lumion on the Chip Render Cloud Workstation. There are two options:

1. Download Lumion from your Lumion account. The downloaded version from your account already has a key license embedded, so you can open it without adding anything.

Note: before you leave our server, make sure you have deactivated your license of Lumion.

Lumion license - FAQ

1. Is Lumion license floating or node-locked?

All Lumion License Keys are floating network licenses that are managed by a cloud-based license server.

2. How do you release a Lumion License Key?

Once you click on the Quit button, Lumion will automatically release the License Key. Note: The computer must have internet access.

3. Error message ‘No license seats are currently available’

“No license seats are currently available” means all the Seats of the embedded License Key in your Lumion installation are currently in use on another computer(s). To solve this issue, you close Lumion on the computer(s) that Lumion is running on.

4. Error message ‘Your License Key has expired’

‘Your License Key has expired’ means that your license/version has already expired. A Student License Key is valid for 365 days after your application has been approved, while a Lumion Trial is valid for 14 days since you first start Lumion.

You need to uninstall that Lumion version and buy a new license.

5. How can you use Lumion on more than one PC at the same time?

To use Lumion on more than one PC at the same time, there are two ways:

  • Buy a License Key with multiple Seats.
  • Buy a separate License Key for each PC.

Chip Blog logoDeactivating and activating the license key of Lumion is kinda easy. You can make use of how Lumion license works and leverage Chip Render Farm to cut down your render times. With powerful and affordable 1/2/4 x GPU RTX 3090 servers, Chip Render will do the heavy render while you can free up your local computer and focus on being creative.

Lumion 12 is available in Standard or Pro editions:

  • Lumion Standard costs €1499/license.
  • Lumion PRO costs €2999/license.

If two or more people want to use a single Lumion license key on multiple computers at the same time, then you need to add seats to your license. Extra seats cost €1499/seat for Lumion Standard, cost €2999/seat for Lumion Pro.

In addition, Lumion offers free educational licenses for full-time students and educators. The license is free and unrestricted for a year (student) and for 3 years (faculty).

8. Is Lumion a one-time purchase?

When you buy a Lumion license, you are getting what is called a ‘floating license’. These are effectively the same as network licenses. You can use the license indefinitely and you can install a single Lumion license key on multiple computers that belong to you (either a natural person or legal entity).

9. Can I use Lumion for free?

Lumion is free for students, lecturers, and academic programs, including all the features, tools, and content in Lumion Pro. You can apply for a free educational license here.

Whether you are buying a new PC/laptop, upgrading your current computer, or getting a custom build, finding the best hardware for boosting Lumion performance might be confusing. You have no idea what to choose. In this post, Chip Render will give you a few ideas about Lumion PC Recommendations before you start.

1. GPU (Graphics card)

GPU, or graphics card, is what shows your Lumion project on the computer screen. The GPU ensures a smooth and enjoyable frame rate (measured in FPS) when you are working on creating the model for your project. In addition, the GPU speeds up the rendering process so that you can get the image, video, or 360-degree panorama quickly and efficiently.

Lumion relies primarily on having an excellent graphics card. As a result, it is the only most effective thing you can do to enhance your Lumion experience and performance of the render results. Check out “Lumion 12 System Requirements” for more information.

Another important thing we must consider is the graphics card memory (VRAM). It will determine how many details, textures, and models can be loaded and processed. So the more VRAM you have, the better.

GPU recommendations for Lumion

lumion pc recommendations gpu nvidia rtx 3090

2. CPU (Processor)

While you are editing your project, the CPU will be working hard because it directs the GPU on what to display on your screen. The more complex your project is (having lots of details and objects), the more instructions your CPU needs to send to your graphics card.

Lumion benefits a lot from high single-core performance. So we do not need a CPU with many cores. It is better to have a CPU with good single-core performance. You are able to run Lumion with a CPU that clocks at 3.0 GHz or scores 2000 PassMark points, or higher. However, to keep up with a fast GPU, a CPU exceeding 2600 PassMark scores is recommended.

CPU recommendations for Lumion

lumion pc recommendations cpu amd ryzen threadripper pro

3. RAM (System memory)

When a project or model is loaded in Lumion, RAM will be needed and used. The more RAM is available, the bigger and more detailed these loaded Scenes and models will be. 16GB of RAM is okay for simple scenes. But if you are doing large, complex scenes, this is not ideal.

RAM recommendations for Lumion: 64 GB+

lumion pc recommendations ram

4. Hard Drive

The Hard Drive’s speed will affect significantly how fast your models and projects are loaded. The faster, the better. NVME SSD drives are the latest technology.

Hard drive recommendations for Lumion: an m.2 NVME drive with 40 GB of free storage space. (Lumion itself needs about 20 GB of free storage space).

5. Power supply

A power supply provides the entire system with the electrical current at specific wattage and voltages. Each component must get enough to run well. If it doesn’t, the PC may shut down itself, restart, or run at a lower performance to compensate. Check out here the power supply you will need.

Lumion PC Recommendations - Wrap up

The above is all about Lumion PC Recommendations, including the graphics card, processor, system memory, hard drive, and power supply.

All things considered, a powerful GPU is the most important component for a great experience with Lumion. CPU, memory, and other specs also play a role, but a good experience begins with the graphics card.
